Questions

FAQ

The five things everyone asks before booking a remote tune, answered the way they would be answered in person.

Safety

Is a Stage 1 safe for a stock engine?

On a healthy, stock EA888 Gen3, run on the fuel it was written for, a conservative Stage 1 sits inside the margins the factory left. The file is written from your own ECU read, not a generic map, and your first datalog is checked before the order closes. What makes it safe is the log, which is why the datalog tiers exist.

What can go wrong?

Knock on a lower fuel than declared, a worn ignition part that only shows up under more load, a boost leak that the stock file tolerated. Each of those shows in a log, and each is the reason the tune is corrected against a log rather than delivered and forgotten.

What if the car knocks or throws a light?

Stop driving it hard, keep the log, and send it. If the file caused it, the file is corrected. If the car caused it, you will be told what to look at before any more flashing.

Do I need a wideband sensor?

No. The EA888 Gen3 has a factory wideband and logs it; the datalog procedure uses that. An aftermarket gauge is not required for Stage 1.

Warranty

Will this void my warranty?

Assume yes for anything the manufacturer can connect to the software: engine, turbo, transmission. Dealers can detect a flash and a flash counter, and restoring stock does not reliably reset either. You acknowledge this on the booking form because it is true.

Does the shop warranty the tune?

The calibration is warranted to be written for the car you described and corrected against the logs your tier includes. The shop does not warranty your engine, gearbox or clutch, and the waiver says so in plain words.

Fuel

Which fuel should I run?

The best you can get consistently, and the one you tell us about. A Stage 1 written for 93 and run on 87 will knock; a Stage 1 written for 91 and run on 93 leaves power on the table but stays safe. Consistency matters more than the number.

What if I sometimes have to run a lower grade?

Say so on the form. The file is then written to the lowest grade you might use, which costs a little power and protects the engine on the bad tank.

Can you tune for E85 or a blend?

Not on a stock fuel system, and not as a Stage 1. A blend needs more injector and pump capacity than the factory fitted, and that is not this product.

Legality

Is this legal on the road?

Every calibration is sold for off-road and competition use only, on vehicles not driven on public roads. Modified engine software may alter emissions-related functions; that can fail an inspection and may be unlawful on a public road where you live. Knowing and complying with your local law is your responsibility, and you acknowledge that before paying.

Does the tune change emissions equipment?

A Stage 1 does not delete anything. It changes boost, timing and fuel targets. Whether that is compliant where you live is a question for your local rules, not something the shop can answer for every jurisdiction.

Why the waiver?

Because the customer is the one operating the vehicle, choosing the fuel, and deciding where it is driven. The waiver sets out the risks and who carries them, and you can read it before booking: it is at /legal/waiver.

Refunds

Can I get a refund?

In full, until work starts on your file. A car that turns out not to be stock, or not to be a supported platform, is refunded before any work starts. Once a file is delivered the fee is earned; a problem with it is fixed through the revisions your tier includes.

What if I never send my stock file?

The booking is held for 60 days. Ask for a refund inside that window and you get one in full; after it, the booking lapses and the shop will still talk to you, but the refund is no longer automatic.

What if I do not like how it drives?

Say what you do not like, with a log if you can. Drivability is in scope on the revision tiers, and on the base tier a genuine safety issue is always corrected.

Something else?

Write in with the engine, the fuel and what it is doing. Or, if the answers above were the ones you needed:
